"Californian punks The Rejected SF are a new name to me, but according to their Facebook page they are ‘the best crappy punk rock band in downtown San Francisco’. This self-titled debut album is not for the faint-hearted, as it comes roaring out of the traps like the bastard offspring of an unholy union between GBH and Motorhead. From opener Truth To Power on, they grab you by the throat and refuse to relax their grip; huge riffs, pummelling drums and driving bass, topped by frantic vocals and the odd gang chorus, which all adds up to a glorious racket. There are 14 tracks, and only one (Surveillance State) makes it beyond the three-minute mark. Don’t get the idea it’s just noise through; these are well-constructed songs, even if the 33-minute run-time passes at breakneck speed. They’ve released two singles from it so far, Her Own Life and Gotta Get out Of This Town, but for me they’re not even the best songs on it (though there’s not a weak track on offer). My personal favourites include Fucking Mondays, 2 Steps To Revolution, Sick Society and the closing Subhuman (the latter reminding me of the Dead Kennedys). I can’t find out a lot about The Rejected SF, other than they’re a four-piece and this is their first album, but it’s definitely worth a listen if you like your punk played loud and with plenty of passion (and don’t we all?). It’s high-octane stuff delivered at full throttle, and I’d recommend it to fans of The Casualties, The Restarts, and other such like-minded bands."
